Significant road closures coming next month to accommodate Mount Ousley interchange work
Construction on the Mount Ousley interchange is ramping up with significant road closures planned next month to allow for major works to commence on the project.
In November the M1 Princes Motorway and some surrounding roads will experience various closure impacts on six nights over a period of two weeks between 8pm and 4am, weather permitting.
The first window will see overnight closures planned for Sunday 3, Monday 4 and Wednesday 6 November. The second period of closures are set to take place on Sunday 10, Monday 11 and Wednesday 13 November, weather permitting.
At times full lane closures will be in place for the Princes Highway between New Mount Pleasant Road and Memorial Drive, the northbound M1 on and off ramps at Northfields Avenue and on Irvine Street between Madoline Street and Northfields Avenue. Single lane closures and stop slow conditions will apply at other locations.
Transport for NSW Coordinator General Howard Collins said motorists will need to plan ahead with significant disruption expected as a result of the night closures.
“We want everyone who uses the Princes Motorway to be aware of these closures and to understand their impact between November 3 and 13,” Mr Collins said.
“While building the Mount Ousley interchange we need to work at night to minimise the traffic disruption and to helps ensure the safety of workers and all road users.
“These upcoming closures will be frustrating for some but the work being done during this time will pave the way for major project construction to get underway, which when complete will make life easier for all motorists using this part of the M1.”
Closures will allow for extensive work will be carried out in the corridor, including installation of site fencing and road barriers to prepare the area for major works.
Electronic message signs and livetraffic.com will advertise road closure dates in advance. For more info on the road closures visit the Mount Ousley project page via www.transport.nsw.gov.au/projects/current-projects/mount-ousley-interchange.
