Trains return to normal timetable after suspected vandalism caused major delays

Published

Train services are running to a regular timetable this morning after a suspected act of vandalism on the rail network caused significant delays for sports fans and concert goers heading home from Sydney Olympic Park last night.

The incident, which damaged critical signalling infrastructure at Ashfield, caused delays for most city-bound services shortly after 10pm on Wednesday night.

Specialist Sydney Trains engineers were deployed to the site immediately and were able to rectify the issue within approximately 90 minutes when services were restored.

Despite the delay, crowds cleared from the Sydney Olympic Park precinct by around midnight.

Sydney Trains reported the incident to NSW Police and an investigation is currently underway. See NSW Police media release here.

The Sydney Trains Security Team will also conduct a thorough investigation.

We want to thank passengers for their patience as we worked to restore services and apologise for the delays.
