Motorists and passengers are advised of changed traffic and travel conditions across Greater Sydney this weekend due to maintenance, project works and major events.  Plan your trip at transportnsw.info and check the latest traffic conditions at livetraffic.com

Heathcote Road

Ongoing essential slope remediation works continue along Heathcote Road resulting in road closures until mid-June:

  • Monday to Thursday nights from 8pm to 5am
  • weekends from 8pm Friday to 5am Monday (except for Mother’s Day weekend)

When closures are in place, motorists can expect delays and use detours via Bangor Bypass. Alternative routes are available via the Hume Motorway and Appin Road or Picton Road.

Sydney Harbour Tunnel 

The Sydney Harbour Tunnel will be closed on the below dates and times:  

  • Northboundand southbound from 11pm Friday 2 May to 6am Saturday 3 May
  • Southbound from 10pm Monday 5 May to 5am Tuesday 6 May
  • Northbound from 10.30pm Tuesday 6 May to 5am Wednesday 7 May
  • Southbound from 10pm Tuesday 6 May to 5am Wednesday 7 May  
  • Northbound from 10.30pm Wednesday 7 May to 5am Thursday 8 May
  • Southbound from 10pm Wednesday 7 May to 5am Thursday 8 May
  • Northbound from 10.30pm Thursday 8 May to 5am Friday 9 May
  • Southbound from 10pm Thursday 8 May to 5am Friday 9 May

During these closures motorists can use the Sydney Harbour Bridge as an alternative, noting the lane closures below.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Up to four lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge deck will close for maintenance and upgrade works from tonight:

  • Friday 2 May: 9.30pm – 7am (one lane)
  • Saturday 3 May: 9.30pm– 3am (four lanes)
  • Sunday 4 May: 9pm– 5am (three lanes)
  • Monday 5 May: 9pm– 5am (two lanes)
  • Tuesday 6 May: 9pm– 5am (one lane)
  • Wednesday 7 May: 9pm– 5am (one lane)
  • Thursday 8 May: 9.30pm – 5am (one lane)

Western Distributor

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on the Western Distributor between 9pm and 5am on Sunday 4 May, Wednesday 7 May and Thursday 8 May when the Kent Street on-ramp northbound to the Western Distributor will be closed. Motorists will be detoured via Kent Street, Margaret Street, and Clarence Street for access to the Western Distributor and Sydney Harbour Bridge. For detours see the Western Distributor Detour Map.

Western Harbour Tunnel

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on City West Link along The Crescent at Rozelle between the M8 portals and Johnston Street at Annandale on Monday 5 May from 9pm to 12am. One lane will temporarily be closed, and traffic control and reduced speed limits will be in place for the safety of pedestrians, workers and motorists.  

This work is to inform the design of signs, line marking and the communication network system for the future Western Harbour Tunnel.

Warringah Freeway Upgrade

Motorists are advised the Miller Street southbound on ramp will continue to be closed from 10am to 6pm weekdays until the end of May.  Motorists can use either the Ernest Street or the Falcon Street on ramp as an alternative. The Miller Street on ramp may also be closed on some nights and weekends. Motorists should check signage.

Essential Trackwork  

  • T1 Western Line, T9 Northern Line and Blue Mountains Line – Sunday 4am to 7:30am, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central.
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line, T5 Cumberland and T8 Airport & South Line – Buses replace trains between Macarthur, Glenfield and Fairfield.

Sunday 4am to 7:30am, buses replace trains between Ashfield and Central.

T8 trains do not run between Sydenham and the City Circle. T4 trains make extra stops at St Peters and Erskineville.

  • T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line – Buses replace trains between Liverpool, Cabramatta and Lidcombe via Regents Park. Sunday 4am to 7:30am, buses replace trains between Ashfield and Central.
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line – Buses continue to replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe until 29 June 2025.
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line – All weekend, buses replace trains between Strathfield and Central.
  • Southern Highlands Line – Friday8pm to Saturday 2am, buses replace trains between Moss Vale and Campbelltown. Saturday and Sunday, buses replace trains between Goulburn, Moss Vale and Glenfield. Monday 5:20am to 8:30am, buses replace trains between Goulburn and Moss Vale.

Trackwork on other lines may affect how you travel. Trains may run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Passengers may need to change trains to complete their journey and are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by visiting transportnsw.info/alerts or using trip planning apps. 

Major Events

Runaway Sydney Half Marathon, Sunday 4 May:  A sold-out group of 25,000 participants are expected to take part in the 21.1km and 10km events around the Sydney CBD, Barangaroo and Pyrmont. Major roads will close between 4am and 1pm with widespread special event clearways in effect. Participants should catch public transport, and motorists should avoid the areas while roads are closed or expect delays on detours. Visit transportnsw.info and see the media release here.

Moore Park events, Sunday 4 May: Moore Park will be busy with more than 40,000 footy fans at the SCG for the AFL Sydney derby clash, Swans v GWS Giants, kicking off at 1.10pm. As well, three ‘The Wiggles’ shows will be held at neighbouring Hordern Pavilion between 10am and 4pm, and The Le Marché French Markets at the Entertainment Quarter from 9.30am until 2pm. Parking on site in the precinct will be limited and fill early. Attendees are encouraged to catch public transport to avoid traffic delays and demand for parking. Tickets to the AFL match include travel on all modes of public transport, with additional frequent light rail services running to and from Moore Park. Visit transportnsw.info
