Upcoming works across Sydney’s road network

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on the Sydney Harbour Bridge from tonight for maintenance and upgrade works and the Vivid drone show.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Up to five lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge deck will be closed for maintenance and upgrade works from tonight:

  • Friday 26 May – 11pm to 6am 
  • Sunday 28 May – 8.30pm to 10pm 
  • Monday 29 May – 11.30pm to 4.30am 
  • Tuesday 30 May – 10pm to 4.30am 
  • Wednesday 31 May – 8.30pm to 4.30am 
  • Thursday 1 May – 10pm to 6am 

On Sunday 28 May and Wednesday 31 May there will be only one northbound lane closed between 8.30pm and 10pm for the Vivid drone show.

Motorists can use the Sydney Harbour Tunnel as an alternative route during these times. There will be southbound tunnel closures on Monday 29 May between 10.30pm to 5am.

The Cahill Expressway will be closed southbound for essential maintenance work tonight from 11pm to 6am, Tuesday 30 May from 10pm to 4.30am and Wednesday 31 May from 10pm to 4.30am. Please drive carefully and follow the directions of signs and traffic crews.

Surry Hills Road Changes

Motorists should continue to avoid roads around the site of an earlier building fire on Randle Street at Surry Hills.

  • Chalmers Street and Randle Street remain closed between Cleveland and Elizabeth Street.
  • Elizabeth Street also remains closed southbound between Eddie Avenue and Devonshire Street.

These road closures are expected to be in place for an extended period. A number of bus routes continue to divert away from Elizabeth Street, Chalmers Street and Randle Street and are missing stops. 

Rail changes across the Sydney network

Sydney Trains passengers travelling on the T1 Western, T2 Inner West & Leppington, T3 Bankstown, T4 Illawarra and Blue Mountains lines should plan their trip, with buses replacing trains on sections of the network for essential maintenance work.

Buses will replace trains on the T1 Western Line, between Emu Plains and St Marys from 10.50pm tonight. On Saturday and Sunday, buses replace trains between Emu Plains and Blacktown.

On the T2 Inner West Line, the all-stations Inner West trains will run between Ashfield and the City only on Saturday from 6.30am to 10.30am. Buses will replace the all-stations Inner West trains between Ashfield and Central from 6.30am to 10.30am on Sunday 28 May.

On the T3 Bankstown Line, buses replace trains between Bankstown and Sydenham on Saturday until 9.30am.

Trains on the T4 Illawarra Line will run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern on Saturday and Sunday from 6.30am to 12.15pm. Some trains start or end at Hurstville or Sutherland. Passengers may need to change trains to continue their journey.

Sunday from 1pm to 4pm, trains will not stop at Wolli Creek, but make an extra stop at Arncliffe. Buses run between Arncliffe, Wolli Creek and Sydenham.

Buses replace trains on the Blue Mountains Line between Lithgow and Blacktown tonight from 10pm, buses replace trains between Bathurst and Blacktown.

Some trains on other lines may run to a changed timetable or stopping pattern. Passengers may need to change trains to continue their journey.

Next week on the T8 Airport & South Line, Monday 29 May to Thursday 1 June nightly from 9.30pm to 1.30am, buses replace trains between Glenfield and Sydenham, and between Sydenham and Central.
