Update on Sydney Trains services

Published

Passengers on the T1, T2, T3, T5, T8 and T9 lines are still being advised to delay all non-essential travel or to use alternative modes of transport to reach their destination this evening.

Sydney Trains is investigating the root cause of the incident which disrupted power around the Homebush and Strathfield area and impacted rail services across the majority of the train network.

Just after 2:30pm today (20 May 2025) a Waratah train became entangled in the overhead wiring at Homebush station, causing substantial damage and two additional trains also impacted.

All four trains with passengers stuck on board have been evacuated safely after qualified staff arrived onsite to ensure the trains and site were made safe, which was a priority.

We have emergency crews and engineering teams on the ground working hard through the night to inspect, rectify the damage and restore what services we can for the morning peak, but passengers will see substantial impacts for the rest of the evening. An update will be provided once we have a clear understanding of tomorrow morning’s impacts and communicate to passengers.
