Update on Victoria Road construction site

Transport for NSW (Transport) has today confirmed the land acquired for the Western Harbour Tunnel Victoria Road construction site will no longer be required and the former Balmain Leagues Club site will be returned to its owner.  

Transport initially worked with the Stage 1 Rozelle Interchange contractor, who confirmed the site was not required for Stage 1 when the contract was signed in January 2022.   

Following discussions between Transport and Industry partners tendering for Stage 2 Western Harbour Tunnel works, it was confirmed that the site was no longer needed for the project.

Transport understands the impact major projects have on communities and is always looking for ways to mitigate these impacts and deliver positive outcomes.  

Transport is now working with affected stakeholders on next steps.

The Western Harbour Tunnel will link the WestConnex Rozelle Interchange to the Warringah Freeway via a 6.5 kilometre tunnel through Sydney Harbour.

Major construction on the Western Harbour Tunnel is set to begin in mid-2022.
