Western Sydney train lines are focus of Rail Repair Plan trackwork this weekend

Published

Passengers in Western Sydney should plan ahead as Rail Repair Plan trackwork this weekend sees buses replace trains on sections of the T1 Western, T2 Leppington Line, T5 Cumberland Line and some Intercity services.

On Saturday and Sunday, buses replace trains between Penrith, Richmond and Granville on the T1 Western Line and between Glenfield and Liverpool on the T2 Leppington Line. This overlaps with T5 Cumberland Line stations.

We will have 1250 rail workers putting in almost 13,000 hours, with works including the removal of 55 high-priority defects. In addition, they will clear a backlog of 14 electrical inspections.

Passengers travelling on the T8 Airport & South Line should take note trains will run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern, and you may need to change trains to continue your journey. From 8.40am to 3pm on Saturday, buses will replace the all-stations T8 Line trains between Wolli Creek and Revesby. Trains continue to run but will not stop at stations between Padstow and Turrella.

Many trains on all these lines will run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern, and passengers are advised to check transportnsw.info, Opal or travel apps for the latest updates.

Intercity & Regional Services

In the west this weekend, trains will run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Penrith only, with buses replacing trains between Penrith and Strathfield all weekend. Bathurst trains continue to run between Bathurst and Central, but to a changed timetable. Passengers travelling to Lithgow to connect with NSW TrainLink Regional Coaches should call 132 232 to confirm departure times.

Up north, trains will run between Central Coast & Newcastle Line stations and Strathfield only. Travellers may need to change trains at Strathfield to continue their journey. In addition, buses replace trains overnight between Wyong and Newcastle from 8pm Saturday to 5am Sunday.

On the South Coast Line, from 3am to 11am on Saturday 22 July only, buses will replace trains between Port Kembla and Wollongong, and between Dapto and Waterfall. Trains will continue to run between Bomaderry, Kiama and Wollongong, some to a changed timetable.

Passengers are advised to check their Opal app, or transportnsw.info for up-to-date information on their line.

Sydney Trains is working hard to minimise the impact on passengers by completing work outside peak periods. Passengers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by visiting transportnsw.info or using trip planning apps on their mobile devices.

Sydney Trains thanks our passengers for their patience as we work to build a more resilient and reliable network.
