Work to increase flood resilience on Burley Griffin Way at Combaning Creek

Motorists will soon benefit from drainage improvements that will provide increased flood resilience on the Burley Griffin Way at Combaning Creek.

Transport for NSW Regional Director South Sam Knight said work will start next month about 10 kilometres east of Temora.

“Work involves replacing six drainage culverts, which are showing signs of wear, with seven wider and stronger culvert structures,” Ms Knight said.

“This $2.9 million upgrade will deliver a safer and wider road to motorists on this important part of the transport network and provide a higher flood resilience due to the increased amount of water that can drain through the culverts.”

Work starting Tuesday 31 October will be carried out from 6am to 6pm weekdays and is expected to be completed by late March 2024, weather permitting.

During the work, over size and over mass restrictions will be in place requiring vehicles wider than 4.5 metres to pull over at the designated parking bay and follow directions of electronic signage.

The new culverts will also provide a wider structure for road users crossing over the creek and safety barriers will be installed to reduce the risk of run-off-road type crashes.

Single lane closures, reduced speed limits of 40 km/h and temporary traffic lights will be in place 24 hours a day to guide motorists through the work zone for the duration of the project.

Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, follow directions of signs and traffic control, and allow up to 10 minutes additional travel time.

Transport for NSW thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
