Work under way on bridges for Berry to Bomaderry upgrade

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has today announced that major work for the Berry to Bomaderry Princes Highway upgrade continues this week with crews to install piles for the bridge foundations.

Mr Ward said that the NSW Government is funding the $450 million upgrade to improve traffic flow and road safety for better and more reliable journeys. 

“The upgrade will provide about 10 kilometres of new four-lane divided highway between Mullers Lane at Berry and Cambewarra Road at Bomaderry,” he said.

“It features 11 bridges including two overpasses and once built will result in easier and safer journeys  between Waterfall and Jervis Bay Road at Falls Creek.

Mr Ward said that the work marks a major step forward in the upgrade.

“There are 261 piles needed to form the foundations of the bridges along this section of road and the piles will be driven into the ground until they rest on rock,” he said.

“It will take crews on average one day to install each pile and the piling will be completed in two stages with work expected to continue until May 2019, weather permitting.

“The first stage has started this week with a piling rig transported to site and the second stage of piling will begin once traffic has been moved off existing bridges so they can be demolished,” Mr Ward concluded.
