What is a Transport approved driving instructor training provider?

Transport approves eligible Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to deliver a Transport approved course in driving instruction for applicants who wish to become licensed driving instructors. These RTOs are referred to as Transport approved driving instructor training providers for the purposes of delivering this driving instruction course to driving instructor licence applicants.

Applying to become a driving instructor training provider

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • be a current Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
  • be ASQA approved to deliver and assess TLI41222 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training in Group A (Car) and/or Group B (Heavy Vehicle) in NSW.
  • be appropriately insured.

How to apply

An applicant must submit the following to DrivingInstructorProgram@Transport.nsw.gov.au:

  • a completed application form
  • evidence of RTO registration and required qualification on scope.
  • certificates of currency for:
    • professional indemnity insurance, $5 million for each claim
    • public liability insurance, $20 million for each claim
