Older Driver Assessment

What is an Older Driver Assessment?

An Older Driver Assessment is a driving assessment for Class C licence holders who wish to retain their licence and are:

  • aged 75 and over who need to complete a driving assessment at the recommendation of their medical practitioner, or,
  • aged 85 with an unrestricted Class C licence and need to pass a driving assessment every second year.

These assessments can be provided by either:

  • a Testing Officer from Service NSW, or,

Providing this service to older drivers

Assessors may provide training prior to conducting the driving assessment on the Older Driver. Assessors must also provide separate assessments for older drivers who do not want training.

All fees for training and assessment are paid by the Older Driver directly to the Assessor. Fees are set by the Assessor.

Assessments may be conducted in either the Assessor’s or Older Driver’s vehicle. If the Assessor’s vehicle is used, it must be fitted with dual controls.
