Planning and assessment

Transport for NSW has a statutory responsibility under the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 to consider the impacts of its activities on the environment.

Transport has a strategic assessment for road activities; endorsed and approved by the Federal Minister for the Environment in September 2015. More information about the strategic assessment

Transport implements a suite of environmental impact assessment procedures tailored to help fulfil this responsibility when delivering rail, maritime and road infrastructure projects.
