Dora Creek Bridge repainting
Project overview
The NSW Government is investing in a project to repaint Dora Creek Bridge to maintain the integrity of the bridge, improve visual amenity and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.

Project Background
Transport for NSW is planning to repaint Dora Creek Bridge at Dora Creek. The two-lane bridge is located on Main Road and is almost 160 metres long.
The bridge was originally constructed and opened as a rail bridge with a single track in 1887. Following construction of a new rail bridge in the 1950’s, the original bridge was converted to a road bridge and opened to traffic in 1960. During the bridge conversion, a concrete deck was added to the structure and a pedestrian walkway was attached to the upstream side of the bridge.
Around 13,300 vehicles use Dora Creek Bridge each day.
The repainting project will help to maintain the integrity of the bridge, improve visual amenity and reduce ongoing maintenance costs.
Project features
The project involves installing scaffolding to encapsulate the bridge, removing existing paint by blasting and applying a new paint coating.
Other maintenance activities will include repairing or replacing damaged steel components and inspecting and cleaning the bridge. A new walkway will also be installed.
The existing walkway will be closed for the duration of the project, with a temporary walkway installed on scaffolding alongside the bridge.
Other considerations
Nearby intersection upgrade
Transport is planning a proposed upgrade to the intersection of Main Road and Dora Street at Dora Creek. We are continuing to develop this project and progress the project to environmental approval and detailed design. The project is subject to project approvals and timing for construction is still to be determined.
The bridge painting and intersection projects will be staged so they are not carried out at the same time to avoid any significant traffic delays and manage community impacts.
Bridge replacement
Funding for a new bridge is not currently available and ongoing maintenance of the existing bridge is required to ensure its continued safe operation.
Next steps
Work on the Environmental Assessment for the project is progressing.
Timing for delivery of the project is still to be confirmed and is dependent on finalising plans and gaining environmental approval.
