Rutledge Street, Eastwood

Project information

Background

Transport for NSW is extending the existing No Parking restrictions on Rutledge Street, between Trelawney Street and Shaftsbury Road, to cover weekends from 11 am to 5 pm. Rutledge Street currently experiences heavy congestion on weekends, causing delays and safety risks, particularly around the intersection with Shaftsbury Road.

This project will improve traffic flow by creating two continuous traffic lanes during peak weekend periods, reducing congestion and making it safer for vehicles turning onto Shaftsbury Road. This change will affect 14 parking spaces, which will become No Parking areas on weekends from 11 am to 5 pm.

Community consultation

Transport for NSW invited community feedback on the proposal from Monday 14 October to Sunday 27 October 2024 to understand local experiences and views on the proposed changes.

We received 136 responses, with over 90% of responses supportive of the changes. All feedback has been reviewed, and the decision was made to proceed with the project as planned.

Benefits

The improvements will:

  • reduce weekend congestion and improve traffic flow
  • ensure safer right-turn movements onto Shaftsbury Road
  • create clearer road conditions, reducing risks for all road users
