Freight Noise Attenuation Program

Reviewed

Project overview

After a decade of effort, the Freight Noise Attenuation Program (Program) launched by Transport for NSW (Transport) has concluded.

The $50 million, 10-year initiative was established in 2015 to install noise reducing treatments in eligible homes and buildings near freight rail corridors between Sydney and Nowra, Macarthur, Newcastle, and Lithgow.

The Program successfully achieved its intended outcomes, treating 1500 homes in communities across NSW, affected by freight rail noise.

A review will be carried out to assess Program outcomes for effectiveness and value for money. This is now expected to be completed within the next 18 months.

If you would like to receive information about the outcome of this review, please register your interest via email at  freight@transport.nsw.gov.au.

The Program was not expected to treat all eligible properties affected by rail freight noise.
