The Horsley Drive and Polding Street, Fairfield

We'll be continuing our investigation work to inform the detailed design of the project. Work is scheduled between 19 August to 16 September Sunday to Thursday from 8pm to 5am, weather permitting.

Due to forecasted weather conditions, Transport is extending the work dates for this investigation work. This essential work will determine the location of existing utilities to inform the design of The Horsley Drive and Polding Street intersection upgrades.

Transport for NSW invited feedback on proposed upgrades to the intersections of The Horsley Drive and Polding Street and The Horsley Drive and Nelson Street, Fairfield in October 2022. 

We have now released the Close of Consultation Report (PDF, 723.03 KB) which addresses community feedback.

The Horsley Drive and Polding Street intersection will be progressing to detailed design. However, the proposed upgrades at the intersection of The Horsley Drive and Nelson Street will not be proceeding. You can read more here (PDF, 6.24 MB).

Transport will be carrying out utility night investigation work between 5 May – 16 May. This essential work will determine the location of existing utilities to inform the design of The Horsley Drive and Polding Street intersection upgrades.

We will be undertaking investigation works from Monday 23 October 2023 to Thursday 29 February 2024, weather permitting.

Transport for NSW is working to improve travel times and road user safety with an upgrade at  intersection of The Horsley Drive at Polding Street in Fairfield.

These upgrades will improve the intersections level of service, which means less wait time, better safety for all road users and traffic efficiency.

What is a pinch point? 

Pinch points are traffic congestion points, intersections or short lengths of road at which a traffic bottleneck exists slowing down the broader network. They cause a build up of traffic and travel delays at these spots and on the wider road network.

Community benefits

The project will improve:

• Traffic flow and reliability on The Horsley Drive.
• Accessibility for pedestrians.
• Road safety while enhancing intersection performance.
• Network performance with additional lanes.
• Road network performance with additional lane capacity on The Horsley Drive westbound.

Transport have revised the scope of works to include additional changes at the intersection of The Horsley Drive and Polding Street, these works include:

• additional left turn slip lane from Polding Street Eastbound to The Horsley Drive Northbound.
• full time right turn ban from Polding Street Westbound to The Horsley Drive Northbound

Footpaths and verges along The Horsley Drive and Polding Street will also be upgraded, along with minor improvements in Douglas Street.

Transport will now progress to detailed design on the project. We will keep the community updated as the project moves forward.
