Project information

Transport is planning the structural remediation of the heritage-listed Meadowbank Bridge.

Did you know?

The Meadowbank Bridge, also locally known as the 'John Whitton Bridge,' was designed by John Whitton, the Chief Engineer of the NSW Government Railways. The bridge was constructed in 1886 as a lattice truss bridge. Initially built for a single rail line, it was later modified in 1891 to accommodate double tracks.

In 1980, a new parallel bridge, named the John Whitton Bridge, was constructed to accommodate the train line, leading to the historic bridge being repurposed. In preparation for the 2000 Summer Olympics, the bridge underwent conversion into a pedestrian walkway and cycle path.
