Project information
Transport for NSW is reducing the speed limit to 50 km/h on several key state roads in Sydney’s Inner West, including:
- Railway Road between Unwins Bridge Road and the Princes Highway
- Gleeson Avenue between Railway Parade and Unwins Bridge Road
- Railway Parade between Sydenham Road and Marrickville Road
- Marrickville Road between Railway Parade and Buckley Street
- Buckley Street between Marrickville Road and Sydenham Road
- Sydenham Road between Livingstone Road and Railway Parade
- Livingstone Road between New Canterbury Road and Sydenham Road
- Railway Terrace and Gordon Street between Old Canterbury Road and New Canterbury Road
- West Street between Parramatta Road and New Canterbury Road.
Benefits
We are implementing the new 50 km/h speed limit to enhance safety for all - motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, and public transport users. These roads are vital pathways connecting homes, schools, parks, restaurants, shops, bus stops, and soon, a Metro Station. By reducing the speed limit, we aim to ensure safe and accessible travel for everyone in the community.
The new 50 km/h speed limit will:
- decrease the likelihood and severity of incidents, benefiting vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists
- increase driver reaction time to unexpected events, reducing collision risks
- encourage walking and cycling, reducing reliance on cars and contributing to environmental sustainability
- align with the Inner West Council’s efforts to improve safety on local roads.
