Nov 2021 – Final Burrill Lake Co-Design Committee meeting
Transport held its final Burrill Lake Co-Design Committee meeting on Tuesday 23 November. Transport thanks the Committee members for their participation in the Co-Design process and looks forward to continuing to engage with the wider community.
Transport has made no final decision on an option through Burrill Lake. A report on the Co-Design process will be published to the wider community in early 2022 and Transport’s preferred option will be displayed for feedback.
A number of options were discussed during the process, including how any future upgrade would interact with Burrill Lake and surrounding communities. The options were extremely varied, with a range of environmental or constructability challenges. Some options had small potential impacts and others had greater impacts.
During future planning of the project, Transport will look to reduce property, environmental and other impacts. No property impacts are confirmed as an option hasn’t been finalised and we’ll keep the community informed as soon as details are known.
Transport acknowledges the difficult decisions associated with being part of the Co-Design Committee and thanks all members for their time and participation. Transport respects the decision of some Committee member's resignations and remains committed to continuing engagement with the wider community to achieve a positive outcome that balances the needs of all transport users alongside the qualities and amenities that makes Burrill Lake so special to locals, and appealing and accessible for visitors.
What was the scope of the committee?
The preferred corridor for the Milton Ulladulla bypass is confirmed and this corridor has informed parts of the scope of the Burrill Lake Co-Design Committee’s assessment of the highway upgrade options through Burrill Lake, including the location of the bypass connection.
Visit the Milton Ulladulla bypass page to see why the Milton Ulladulla bypass option was confirmed.
The scope of the Co-Design Committee was to assess and recommend a range of design features and intersection treatments for the proposed highway upgrade through Burrill Lake including:
- Options and intersection treatment/s at the southern connection of the Milton Ulladulla bypass
- Highway crossing of Burrill Lake
- Highway upgrade and treatment of various intersections at Burrill Lake (including the highway upgrade from the Milton Ulladulla bypass southern connection to Burrill Lake Drive)
- Highway alignment and speed environments
- Accessibility and connectivity for local vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists along the highway corridor including public transport connections and access to recreational locations and activities
- Deliver a sense of place for the Burrill Lake community. For example, shared paths to local beaches, fishing platforms, boat ramps and other potential improvements to amenities.
A report on the Co-Design process and outcome will be published to the wider community in early 2002, and once identified, the preferred option will be displayed for feedback.

Jun 2021 – Co-design committee announced for highway upgrade
Burrill Lake
We are co-designing planning for the highway upgrade at Burrill Lake, including the southern connection of the Milton Ulladulla bypass, by establishing an independent committee of community stakeholders, residents, government agencies and Transport representatives. The committee will identify and recommend an option for the highway upgrade at Burrill Lake including the southern connection of the bypass. Once identified, a preferred option will be displayed to the wider community for feedback.
The co-design approach recognises Burrill Lake is unique and any future highway upgrade must balance the needs of all transport users alongside the qualities and amenities that makes Burrill Lake so special to locals, and appealing and accessible for visitors.
Nominations for the co-design committee have closed, and the committee has been appointed.
