Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road natural disaster recovery

Transport for NSW is working to repair natural disaster damage on state roads across NSW caused by record breaking rainfall across the state during 2022.

As part of the NSW Government natural disaster recovery response, Transport for NSW has identified Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road as three state-maintained roads requiring natural disaster repairs.

May 2024 – resurfacing work update and road closures

Resurfacing work will commence on Old Northern Road, in both directions between Middle Dural and Maroota, from Monday 6 May (delayed from previously advised Wednesday 17 April start date due to wet weather). Work is still expected to be completed by Friday 28 June 2024, weather permitting.

This work will involve replacing sections of asphalt and repainting road markings on Old Northern Road at the following locations:

  • Old Northern Road between Mid Dural Road and Edwards Road, Middle Dural
  • Old Northern Road between Wylds Road and Munros Lane, Arcadia
  • Old Northern Road between Schwebel Lane and 2852 Old Northern Road, Glenorie
  • Old Northern Road between 3900 Old Northern Road and Wisemans Ferry Road, Maroota.

The duration of the asphalting work at each location is as below:

Further to the asphalting work, there will be an additional three night shifts of line marking at each location.

Work will be completed between Sunday to Thursday, 8pm and 5am. We will not work on Friday nights, Saturdays or public holidays.

Road closure and detour routes

As part of this work, we will need to close Old Northern Road between Wisemans Ferry Road, Maroota and Galston Road, Dural.

Northbound traffic will need to detour via:

  • Pennant Street, Showground Road, Windsor Road, Pitt Town Road, Cattai Road and Wisemans Ferry Road.

Southbound traffic will need to detour via:

  • Wisemans Ferry Road, Cattai Road, Pitt Town Road, Windsor Road, Showground Road and Pennant Street.

 

Restricted access heavy vehicles

The following restricted access heavy vehicles are not permitted to use Showground Road in the detours outlined above:

  • All heavy vehicles operating at HML (Higher Mass Limit)
  • All PBS (Performance Based Standards) vehicles operating under the National Class 2 Performance Based Standards (High Productivity) Authorisation Notice
  • PBS 2B vehicles operating under the National Class 2 Performance Based Standards Vehicle (Tier 1) Authorisation Notice.

The alternative detour route for the above vehicles will be via:

  • Old Northern Road, Windsor Road, Briens Road, Old Windsor Road, Pitt Town Road, Bathurst Street, Eldon Street, Cattai Road and Wisemans Ferry Road to head northbound.
  • Wisemans Ferry Road, Cattai Road, Eldon Street, Bathurst Street, Pitt Town Road, Old Windsor Road, Briens Road, Windsor Road and Old Northern Road to head southbound.

Please allow up to one hour of additional travel time when planning your trip.

Notification of all road closures will be displayed on Variable Message Signage boards at least five days before any traffic changes come into effect.

Access to properties on Old Northern Road

Access to properties on Old Northern Road between Wisemans Ferry Road and Galston Road will be maintained under the direction of traffic controllers. Residents will experience delays while we arrange safe travel through the work area.

Please also note that the Wisemans Ferry Road resurfacing work is now complete. 

Completed projects

Since we commenced this program of work on 30 January 2024 the following road resurfacing projects have been completed:

  • Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road, Cattai project completed 1 May 2024
  • Cattai Road between Millers Road and Cattai Creek, Cattai, completed 2 April 2024
  • Old Northern Road, Dural and Middle Dural work, completed on 7 March 2024
  • Old Northern Road, Dural to Forest Glen work, completed on 27 February 2024
  • Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry work, completed on 6 February 2024
  • Wisemans Ferry Road, South Maroota work, completed on 1 February 2024.

Please note, some of the completed locations mentioned above may still require permanent line marking work.

Transport for NSW is working to repair natural disaster damage on state roads across NSW caused by record breaking rainfall across the state during 2022.

As part of the NSW Government natural disaster recovery response, Transport for NSW has identified Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road as three state-maintained roads requiring natural disaster repairs.

In response to initial findings, and to address critical issues in the short term, essential road patching maintenance was carried out over 2022 on all three state-maintained roads.

At the same time, Transport for NSW also focused on designing a long-term solution. This work has now been completed and long-term road repairs commenced on Tuesday 30 January 2024

All work across Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry Road and Cattai Road corridors is expected to be completed in approximately six months, weather permitting
