Project overview
The NSW Government has committed over $825 million to pinch point projects which ease congestion, reduce traffic delays and improve travel times on Sydney's major roads.

Latest news
Oct 2020 - Work completed
Transport for NSW has completed this project to help ease congestion and improve travel times and safety for road users.
Motorists and local residents in Hoxton Park and surrounding areas were experiencing heavy congestion in the morning and evening peak hours caused by traffic turning into Joadja Road.
We started work on this project in October 2019 and since opening to traffic in August 2020, the upgrade is delivering more reliable trips for all road users.
Thank you to the local community for your patience while we completed this intersection upgrade.
Project information
Background
The NSW Government funded this project as part of its $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel time on Sydney’s busiest corridors.
Motorists traveling towards Liverpool were experiencing heavy congestion in the morning and evening peak hours caused by traffic turning into Joadja Road.
Transport for NSW has upgraded this ‘pinch point’ by adjusting medians to create an additional eastbound right turn lane on Hoxton Park Road into Joadja Road.
We also added signals at the left turn slip lane pedestrian crossing from Hoxton Park Road westbound into Joadja Road.
Since opening to traffic in August 2020, the upgrade is delivering more reliable trips for all road users.
Benefits
Benefits to the community include:
- improving traffic flow for Liverpool and local suburb road users
- reducing travel times, particularly in peak hours
- easing congestion along Hoxton Park Road
- improving safety for pedestrians and road users.
Community information
Community consultation
Roads and Maritime sought feedback from the community and stakeholders in late January and early February 2018.
We thank everyone for considering the proposal and for their feedback.
After considering all responses, along with the proposal’s aims, design requirements and constraints, and further investigations, we are not progressing with the additional right turn on Banks Road onto Hoxton Park Road. We decided to proceed with the proposal to upgrade the right turn lane from Hoxton Park Road into Joadja Road.
