Transport for NSW is upgrading the tidal flow system for improved safety and traffic management on Princes Highway and Canal Road in St Peters, just north of Sydney airport.

Project information
Background
The tidal flow system was installed in 1997 to create a right turn lane from Princes Highway into Canal Road during morning peak traffic. The system was upgraded in 2009 and a further upgrade is necessary to maintain safe operation.
Major work is expected to start in late 2025
Key Features
To make the tidal flow system up to date and bring it into line with the rest of the road network, Transport plans to:
- Install pavement lights at major intersections
- Upgrade cameras and changeable message signs
- Upgrade conduits, cables, pipes and pits
- Make adjustments to footpaths and upgrades to barrier boards/ boom gates
Benefits
This essential work will upgrade the tidal flow system at Princes Highway and Canal Road and maintain the safety, reliability and efficiency of that part of the road network and related roads.
