Latest news

Jun 2022 - Start of work

Work on the first stage of the project will be carried out from Tuesday 14 June, weather permitting.

We will be working between 6pm and 5am from Sunday to Thursday nights, and expect to complete this work by mid-September, weather permitting.

There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe.

Lane closures and a 40km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours and may affect travel times. Motorists should allow up to five minutes extra travel time during this work.

There will be some temporary impacts to parking on Kelly Street during work hours. We have tried to minimise impacts to parking by completing the work at night and working in sections, moving gradually along Kelly Street.

Project information

Background

The New England Highway Bypass of Scone opened to traffic in March 2020. The bypass removed about 500 trucks that had been travelling through the main street each day, improving safety and amenity for all residents and businesses.

The NSW Government has been working closely with the Upper Hunter Shire Council during its development of the Scone CBD Revitalisation Project and is investing in this upgrade to improve the road surface on Kelly Street between Kingdon and Susan streets.

The Kelly Street road upgrade will be completed in two stages. Transport will deliver the first stage of the project. Upper Hunter Shire Council will deliver the section stage as part of their CBD Revitalisation project.

Project overview

Stage one

Stage one of the project will involve saw cutting sections of the road to remove and replace concrete slabs to provide a stronger road, removing the central medians and installing temporary barriers.

Work will start on the northbound lanes at Kingdon Street and move gradually north to Susan Street, before moving onto the southbound lanes working south.

Stage two

The second stage of the road upgrade will involve resurfacing to provide a smooth, safe road surface and installing final line marking. This stage will be delivered by Council at the same time as their revitalisation work.
