Project information

Scabbing Flat Bridge is a timber truss bridge identified in the Timber Truss Bridge Conservation Strategy (2012) for retention.

A routine inspection in late 2023 revealed significant deterioration of the timber structure and evidence of active termites.

As a necessary precaution, a load limit of 16-tonnes was implemented to protect the bridge while planning and repairs were undertaken.

Repairing a timber truss bridge requires substantial planning and expertise to ensure high standards are met.

Apply for a permit to increase tonnage on Scabbing Flat Bridge

Transport for NSW are working with local producers to apply identification permits to each approved heavy vehicle up to 18 tonnes – unloaded – so they can safely use the bridge, with no adverse impact to the structure.

Local producers can apply for a permit to operate increased tonnage vehicles across the historic Scabbing Flat Bridge in Geurie, as Transport for NSW crews continue with bridge safety and strengthening work.
