South West Roads Planning
Project overview
The NSW and Australian Governments are investing $65 million to plan key road upgrades in South West Sydney to help build a better NSW. The South West Roads Planning program will focus on seven key road connections within the Greater Macarthur and South West Growth areas.
These include Hume Motorway, Cowpasture Road, Camden Valley Way, Campbelltown Road, Menangle Road, Jersey Road and a proposed bypass of Appin Town centre.

This is one of a number of Transport programs supporting greater connections across the Greater Macarthur and Outer South West Sydney. We are taking steps to support communities and growth in this area by reducing congestion and increasing safety on our roads, along with introducing new sustainable transport options for better access to employment, services and leisure destinations.
Project information
Overview
From now to 2028, Transport will prepare business cases and plan investigations into the following critical road upgrades:
- Hume Motorway - Narellan Road to Picton Road strategic options planning and access strategy
- Cowpasture Road - M7 Motorway to Camden Valley Way widening from four to six lanes
- Camden Valley Way - M5 Motorway to Narellan Road widening from four to six lanes
- Campbelltown Road – Hume Highway to Brooks Road widening from two to four lanes
- Menangle Road - Tindall Street, Campbelltown to Cummins Road, Menangle Park strategic planning for proposed widening
- Appin Town Centre bypass – strategic options and road alignment planning
- Jersey Road - Oran Park to Bradfield planning study for development of a new road connection.
