Supporting NSW Economic Stimulus
Project overview
The NSW Government is providing funding to support communities and jobs and boost business in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.
As part of the Supporting NSW Health and Economic Stimulus Package, Transport for NSW is bringing forward a range of projects and activities across regional NSW designed to:
- Keep people in jobs
- Deliver investment
- Ensure the network connects communities to services
- Strengthen communities.
Stimulus programs
Accelerated Capital Maintenance program
Accelerated Capital Maintenance is a $100 million NSW Government program fast-tracking the delivery of 160 shovel-ready safety upgrades and maintenance projects on regional NSW roads and rail networks that improve the transport experience and make journeys more reliable.
Road projects include safety treatments, such as:
- rumble strips, alerting motorists to correct their path
- roadside safety barriers, protecting motorists from run-off road crashes
- intersection upgrades to improve safety and accessibility
- road resurfacing.
Rail projects include upgrades to parking and customer facilities, such as:
- resurfacing of station car parks
- wheel stops to prevent vehicles from entering walkways or traffic lanes
- upgraded drainage
- improved dedicated accessibility parking spaces.
Accelerated Regional Roads program
Accelerated Regional Roads is a $184.5 million NSW Government program, providing funding to councils to accelerate the development and delivery of 12 regional road projects to stimulate the regional economy to reduce the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The program includes delivery of the following projects:
- Bobeyan Road Resealing
- Captains Flat Road
- Clarence Town Road
- Dunn’s Creek Road
- Hay Main Street
- Ocean Drive Duplication
- Pooncarrie Road Upgrade
- Rangari Road Upgrade
- Taree Northern Gateway, Cundletown
- The Bucketts Way
- Werris Creek Road Upgrade
- Woodburn to Coraki Road Upgrade.
Fixing Local Roads program
Fixing Local Roads is a $500 million NSW Government program, providing funding to councils to assist in reducing the local roads maintenance backlog. Councils can apply for funding to assist in repairing, patching, maintaining or sealing existing priority council roads.
Fixing Country Bridges program
Fixing Country Bridges is a $500 million NSW Government program that aims to create a new legacy for our local road network, enabling councils to replace hundreds of timber bridges in poor condition and better connect regional and rural communities. The program aims to reduce the maintenance and renewal burden on councils and improve accessibility for local and regional communities.

Worker safety
We have increased efforts to ensure construction workers comply with Australian and NSW health directions in response to the Coronavirus outbreak.
Measures include an increased focus on personal hygiene, ensuring any high risk employees such as older workers are not coming to work and conducting daily screenings for signs of illness prior to workers entering a site.
