Project information

Overview

Transport partners with contractors to deliver routine road maintenance and asset management services to state roads across the network.

For the safety of workers and road users, temporary lane closures, traffic controls and reduced speed limits are put in place to carry out this essential road maintenance work.

In some instances, a temporary tow away zone is also introduced to manage vehicles that have been parked within a designated work site.

Vehicles parked in work zones cause significant disruptions to road maintenance work resulting in multiple work attempts, ongoing community impacts, increased costs and lower quality assets.

To reduce these impacts, temporary tow away zones may now be implemented as an additional measure when carrying out road maintenance work.

We will continue to provide community notifications about upcoming work including any temporary changes to parking. This will ensure that impacted community members are kept informed and can plan ahead.

What is a temporary tow away zone?

Temporary tow away zones are designated areas where vehicles are subject to immediate towing. Tow away zones are marked by signage that specify dates and times of which the enforcement applies.

Temporary tow away zones allow work to be delivered efficiently, reducing the duration of work, providing a higher quality road surface and minimising the need for future road maintenance work.

These tow away zones are strict no parking zones for all vehicle types for a specific period. These zones apply to all motorists, including residents, businesses and permit holders including Mobility Scheme Permits.

Temporary tow away signage is installed at a work area in advance. The enforcement applies during the specified dates and times.

Variable Message Signs (VMS) will also be placed around the work area to advise the community of changed parking conditions and dates of work.

Members of the community are advised to check signs carefully before work is carried out, as vehicles left in signposted areas will be towed.

Towing fees may apply.

Locating your vehicle

Vehicles towed from the work zone will be moved to an alternate parking space nearby and the location will be recorded in our system.

If a vehicle is towed away vehicle owners can find their vehicle location by:
