Project information

Background

The NSW Government provided funding for these upgrades as part of its $300 million Urban Roads Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce congestion and improve travel time on Sydney’s busiest corridors.

The upgrades were completed in November 2019. Before this, residents from Hinchinbrook and surrounding suburbs often experienced congestion and long wait times at the Hoxton Park Road and Whitford Road intersection. Road users accessing the M7 or travelling west along Hoxton Park Road would also experience delays because of congestion at this intersection.

Transport for NSW has now completed this work to help address this. Since opening to traffic, the upgrades have been easing congestion and delivering more reliable trips to and from the Liverpool CBD for all road users.

Benefits

The key benefits to the community include:

  • Improving traffic flow from Liverpool through the intersection by separating northbound motorists
  • Lowering travel times to connect to the M7 Motorway
  • Easing congestion for local residents needing to access Hoxton Park Road eastbound and westbound.

Community consultations

In December 2017 Roads and Maritime Services invited feedback on proposed intersection improvements at Hoxton Park Road and Whitford Road, Hinchinbrook.

After considering all responses, we have decided not to change the proposed design.
