Project overview
As part of the Australian Government’s $2 billion Road Safety Stimulus Program (RSSP), proposed improvements on Alfords Point Road between Brushwood Drive and Menai Road at Menai have been completed.

Drainage and Wire Rope Upgrades have been installed on Alfords Point Road between Brushwood Drive and New Illawarra Road, Menai. The upgrade includes a 2.6km long median rope wire barrier, a new guard rail under the Brushwood Drive Bridge, and new drainage.

Project information
Background
Alfords Point Road between Brushwood Drive and Menai Road at Menai has been identified as high-risk section of road for incidences and crashes involving road users.
This upgrade will deliver a safer and more reliable journey for those travelling on one of Sydney’s busiest corridors.
What's happening?
Work will commence in late January and is expected to be completed in June 2025.
Work will include:
- installing a central road barrier between the southbound and northbound lanes
- constructing a guard rail under the Brushwood Drive Bridge
- resurfacing asphalt
- line marking road pavements
- improving drainage outlets.

The proposed project will:
- reduce the likelihood and severity of head-on crushes
- provide a safer travel experience for road users.
Next steps
Work on this project commenced in late January 2025.
