State Transit drives home charity message

A two-year-old hospital patient will feature on the side of a State Transit bus for the next six weeks as we do our bit to help sick kids.

The smiling face of Carter from Maroubra, who suffers a respiratory condition, will beam out from the bus operating in the eastern suburbs - including services to the Randwick-based hospital.

 

The annual Gold Appeal, which raised over $6 million last year, asks the public to ‘be someone who helps a sick kid today’ and runs from May 1 to June 11.

 

“We are very happy to support the good work of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and help provide as much publicity for them as we can with this eye-catching wrap of the bus,” said State Transit CEO Steffen Faurby.

 

“But we also want to help more directly and so we are introducing a voluntary Workplace Giving scheme, for staff who would like to support the charity and are prepared to donate a regular sum from their pay.

 

“The women and men who drive and maintain our buses excel at taking care of the public as part of their job, and that dedication to others doesn’t stop when they clock off from work at the end of the day.”

 

Money from the Gold Appeal will go towards buying the latest equipment, medical research and vital services that help young patients survive.

 

State Transit staff can now make a regular donation from their pay to the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation, through a voluntary Workplace Giving scheme which is being rolled out across Sydney’s eight depots from today (May 1).
