Transport Visiting Fellowship Program

Overview

The Transport Visiting Fellowship Program provides industry experience to final year PhD students and recent graduates.

Our vision is to provide a healthy, sustainable and integrated transport system for passenger and freight journeys across NSW.  

To achieve this vision, we are looking for specialist and technical expertise across a range of cutting-edge projects.  Projects vary, but are aligned to our Future Transport Strategy and the Transport Technology Strategy

Roles are filled on a temporary full/part time basis, for 3-6 months depending on project requirements. Positions are based in Sydney (flexibility offered).

You would collaborate closely with colleagues, other industry partners and wider cluster staff to create solutions supporting our strategic plans and provide information and advice to the cluster. 

If you have a desire to be close to the action and play a part in providing research supporting and informing decision making for the transport system, this could be the role for you.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities could include (but not limited to):

  • undertaking and managing applied research, analysis and evaluation across a broad range of transport themes, particularly as they relate to Transport for NSW's strategic plans
  • identifying, understanding and reviewing transport issues, trends and broad NSW government strategies, research transport implications and possible responses to guide the division’s activities and present a strategic picture for the future
  • identifying new opportunities for research and innovation, working with stakeholders across the cluster and externally
  • contributing to project management, stakeholder engagement and various other tasks as required by the project.

Roles will sit across various divisions across the Transport Cluster with guided support provided by the Universities and Research Team, Customer Strategy and Technology.

About you

Along with exceptional technical and subject matter expertise and a passion to make a difference, you need: 

  • a strong track record of delivering practical research outcomes
  • solid research and/or evaluation expertise, including developing and managing research projects, defining appropriate research methods, and experience in delivering research reports
  • demonstrated ability to present and explain complex technical information to a non-technical audience
  • excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills.

Positions are only available to PhD graduates who have recently completed their qualifications (soon to be or within the last 12 months).
