Call for tenders to build the new Spring Creek Bridge

Plans to replace Spring Creek Bridge on the Kamilaroi Highway near Narrabri have reached an important milestone, with the call going out for suitably qualified contractors to tender and lead construction on this project.

The replacement of Spring Creek Bridge will improve safety for all road users including heavy vehicles which rely on the bridge to travel between Narrabri and Wee Waa in the state’s north-west.

The existing bridge is in poor condition and has been subject to heavy vehicle restrictions and detours while essential safety work has been carried out to stabilise the structure.

Transport for NSW Regional Director West Alistair Lunn said the project to replace Spring Creek Bridge would deliver a new, wider bridge that meets modern design standards along with current and future road network requirements.

“Spring Creek Bridge is an important link for the community including locals, tourists and freight operators travelling on the Kamilaroi Highway between Narrabri and Wee Waa,” Mr Lunn said.

“The new bridge will be a stronger, longer-lasting structure which will improve safety for all road users and improve access for freight and agricultural operators.”

Work to construct a temporary sealed side track around the project site has been completed and will be used to provide safe, two-lane traffic flow on the Kamilaroi Highway while the bridge replacement is under way.

“This is an exciting project that will deliver long-term benefits for communities in the north-west of NSW,” Mr Lunn said.

Tenders will open tomorrow - Friday 19 January and close in March.

Work is expected to start later in the year after the successful tenderer is selected and the contract is awarded.
