Why flexibility matters for parents at Transport

Published
Flexible working for parents is important to Transport for NSW as an organisation.

Each year on 1 June, the United Nations recognises the Global Day of Parents to appreciate the selfless commitment parents make to their children. At Transport for NSW, we believe this is an ideal time to reflect on the importance of flexible working for parents within our organisation.

Flexible working arrangements are an important part of our culture. Not only do they help our staff balance working life with the challenges of parenthood, but they allow us to build a highly skilled and diverse workforce for years to come.

We are committed to supporting our people at all stages of their career, especially when they become a parent. Whether it’s shifting core working hours, working from home or considering job share opportunities, we work with parents to find options that work for them and Transport.

At Transport, we offer support for new parents, such as parental and adoption leave, as well as our ‘Staying Connected’ program that provides workshops to help parents during the transition back to working life.

Our flexible working arrangements start with an open and honest conversation, and work as an ongoing a process of trial and error to balance the needs of our business and our people.

We believe that flexibility benefits everyone at Transport. It is helping us to develop committed, high-performing teams and makes Transport a better place to work for our staff.
