Project overview
The NSW Government is investing $1.6 million for pedestrian safety improvements on the Great Western Highway at Blaxland. Project information
Following a tragic pedestrian fatality at this location in 2021, in 2022 the current NSW Government made a pre-election commitment to fund a physical barrier to improve pedestrian safety.
The project runs along the Great Western Highway from the intersection of Layton Ave, 300 metres west toward the Blaxland Train Station.
Construction will begin 12 May 2025 and is expected to take four weeks. Work will include widening the footpath to 1.5 metres, installing 300 metres of pedestrian fence between the footpath and the Highway, and 135 metres of low retaining wall between the footpath and the rail corridor.
We will also replant vegetation in accordance with a landscaping plan determined by Blue Mountains City Council.
