November 2024 – Seeking tenders for electrical upgrade
We thank the harbour user community who helped during the early planning stages and development of the preliminary concept options for a future upgrade of the on-water berthing infrastructure at the Brunswick Heads Boat Harbour.
As we continue to manage and maintain the Brunswick Heads Harbour area, available funding will be used to deliver maintenance work needed in the harbour. We are currently seeking tenders from accredited electrical contractors to upgrade power that services the harbour berths.
For more details on this upcoming work see our latest community update (PDF, 1 MB). We will continue to update you as this work progresses.
November 2022 - Site investigations
Site investigations are now complete and the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) will be available soon. We will invite community feedback on the project proposal when the concept design and REF go on public display.
August 2022 - Site investigations
The Brunswick Heads Boat Harbour upgrade project is in the early stages of development.
As the result of recent flooding in the area, we still have some critical site investigations to complete and will finalise these when conditions improve.
Once complete we will publish the Review of Environmental Factors and seek feedback on the concept design from the community. We will also provide further information about any potential impacts during construction.
At this stage, the number of berths that will become available will not be known until construction is complete. We have now closed the waitlist for berths in this harbour until after the project is completed.

Background
In February 2021, the then Minister for Transport and Roads, the Hon. Andrew Constance, announced $2.8 million of maritime stimulus funding for the upgrade of maritime infrastructure at Brunswick Heads Boat Harbour.
The Brunswick Heads Boat Harbour is a popular boat harbour located on the far north coast of NSW.
About the project
The current harbour infrastructure needs upgrading so it meets current safety and accessibility standards.
In 2021, we started early planning and development work looking at upgrading the on-water berthing infrastructure at Brunswick Heads Harbour. The aim of the project was:
- increased community access and use of the boat harbour
- increased safety for users of the boat harbour facility by upgrading infrastructure to meet relevant modern design standards
- improved accessibility for vessel users in the tidal environment
- metered water and power services for each berth
As the Harbour Managers, we continue to manage and maintain the Brunswick Heads Harbour area and available funding will be used to deliver critical harbour work and maintenance needed.
We are currently planning electrical work which will see the upgrade of the power in preparation for any future harbour upgrades.
Next steps
- Award contract for electrical upgrade.
- Start of work for electrical upgrade.
- Complete work for electrical upgrade.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get a berth for my vessel at Brunswick Heads Harbour?
The Brunswick Heads Harbour is a popular harbour and is currently at capacity. We are not taking applications for berthing licences at this time.
If a berth becomes available, we will advertise this for applications to be considered.
We suggest you look at locations at Evans Head and Ballina for options for berthing.
What if I have already got my name on the berth waitlist?
If you have registered for the waitlist previously, this has been recorded by us. You do not need to apply again. We are not adding any further names to this list at this time.
