Other work in the Royal National Park
The Royal National Park has experienced flooding and major damage to roads and other infrastructure after unprecedented rain levels since 2022.Significant landslides occurred at McKell Avenue and Garie Road, resulting in restricted access at McKell Avenue and a full closure of Garie Road.
McKell Avenue landslip repair work is complete, and repairs to Garie Road are on track for completion in August 2025, weather and site conditions permitting.
Periodic closures continue at Audley Weir due to flooding events. Audley Weir typically floods three or four times a year but experienced a significant increase in flooding events, prompting the need for improvements at the weir.
Transport for NSW is working with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and other stakeholders to repair roads and deliver safety improvements in the Royal National Park.
Transport for NSW understands and appreciates the inconvenience this causes to National Park visitors and the local community.
Important updates
Garie Road landslip
The collapse of Garie Road is one of the worst in Greater Sydney due to the severe wet weather events since 2021. This weather contributed to ongoing land slippage under the road, which increased the risks around the site.
The construction work is progressing and is expected to be completed in August-2025, weather and site conditions permitting.
Garie Road remains closed to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and workers who need to access the site. Our priority is to repair and open the road as soon and as safely possible.

Garie Beach closure
Garie Beach will remain closed until at least August-2025.
Audley Weir
A range of upgrades to improve access and safety are underway at Audley Weir to address disruptions caused by increased rainfall and flooding, with more improvements in the pipeline.
A temporary electronic message sign has been installed at the intersection of Sir Bertram Stevens Drive and Bundeena Drive to notify road users of weir closures, replacing the ageing ‘flip-sign’ previously in place. This will improve the reliability of information for the community.
In addition, automated gates will be installed at both sides of the weir to stop vehicles from crossing during flooding. This project is now in the design phase and the community will be notified when construction is expected to start.
Permanent electronic signs are installed at multiple locations ensure road users are given advanced warnings of weir closures. These locations can be found on the map below.
New live-traffic cameras have been installed to monitor flood levels at the weir. The Live Traffic website will have the latest information on closures, displaying live cameras of the weir.
