Heathcote Road corridor projects
- The Heathcote Road upgrade from Infantry Parade, Holsworthy to The Avenue at Voyager Point
Duplicating a 2.2 kilometre section of the road between Infantry Parade, Holsworthy and The Avenue, Voyager Point for a two-lane road to a four-lane divided road. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, meet future traffic volumes and improve pedestrian and cyclist connectivity within the surrounding areas. Construction of this project is continuing. As part of a $180M NSW Government commitment, Transport for NSW is planning to prioritise construction of a west bound overtaking lane which starts at the recently completed Heathcote Road Bridge over Woronora River at Engadine and extends west towards New Illawarra Road at Lucas Heights.
Planning for duplication of lanes, between The Avenue, Voyager Point to Princes Highway, Engadine
Planning is underway for the duplication of approximately 18kms between Voyager Point to Princes Highway at Engadine.
- Heathcote Road bridge widening project
The Heathcote Road Bridge upgrade is now complete, with a new 6-metre-wide bridge built upstream of the existing Heathcote Road Bridge. To improve safety and provide traffic flow benefits, the new bridge is for westbound traffic and the existing bridge is for east bound traffic. - Heathcote Road Deadman’s Creek Koala Protection
To encourage koalas to travel away from the road and avoid passing vehicles, or only cross at safe locations, fencing is proposed along Heathcote Road which would result in continuous koala protection from Pleasure Point Road to south of St George Crescent. We are also proposing installing one-way escape structures and improving fauna access under Deadmans Creek Bridge.
