In 2016, Transport for NSW called for public comment on proposed improvements to the intersection of Parramatta Road and Great North Road, Five Dock.

Background

Transport for NSW does not currently plan carry out the upgrade. However, it will continue to assess options to reduce congestion and improve travel times in the area. This might include further investigation work in and around the intersection. Transport for NSW will keep local residents and businesses advised of developments in this regard. In 2016, Transport for NSW called for public comment on proposed improvements to the intersection of Parramatta Road and Great North Road, Five Dock.

Community consultation was carried out in 2016 and a submissions report (PDF, 1.62Mb was published in March 2017.

Proposed project features

The 2016 proposal included:

  • providing an additional right turn lane from Parramatta Road into Great North Road to increase capacity and stop queuing into the through traffic lanes
  • widening Parramatta Road on the northern side and Great North Road on the eastern side to accommodate the additional right turn lane
  • widening the bridge over Iron Cove Creek to accommodate the additional right turn lane
  • realigning the footpath on Parramatta Road and Great North Road.

Next steps

There are no plans to undertake the intersection at this time. Transport for NSW will continue to assess options to reduce congestion and improve travel times in the area.
