Project information

Background

Transport for NSW is planning for the future by preparing an Integrated Transport Plan (ITP) to guide transport planning over the next 10 years.

As part of the development of this plan we need to understand and investigate improvements to the transport network that meets the needs of our customers now and into the future.

The ITP will focus on key areas such as active travel – for example walking, running, and cycling – public transport, road transport, parking and public spaces.

It is designed to evaluate infrastructure and service planning from now and into the future, building on the Integrated Transport Strategy completed by Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council in 2020.

It will identify a range of actions that Transport, Council and other key stakeholders can then implement to make the Queanbeyan region a better place.

It will map out how we can improve some of the current transport-related challenges in and around Queanbeyan.

Benefits

  • supporting economic growth and future transport needs in and around Queanbeyan
  • improving safety
  • delivering a high performing, well integrated and efficient transport network
  • improving accessibility to transport infrastructure and services for all community members
  • providing a more reliable journey and better-connected transport services within Queanbeyan and ACT.

Community engagement

Consultation with the community is an important part of this project. It will help us understand community values and concerns around transport issues in and around the Queanbeyan region.

Once we understand how people are feeling, we can work towards improving some of the current transport related challenges. Feedback from this consultation will build on the 16 Cities consultation carried out late last year.

Frequently asked questions

What is the project about?

We are investigating improvements to the transport network in and around the Queanbeyan region, to create a more efficient transport system for the future that meets the needs of our customers.

This forms part of our long-term commitment to provide safe, efficient and reliable journeys through Queanbeyan while maintaining the character and amenity in the town centre.

What is the study area?

The study area includes the Queanbeyan region as well as neighbouring towns to show connections into and out of this area, as indicated on the interactive mapping tool.

What is the focus of the investigation?

Queanbeyan. These include road safety, active transport connectivity, on-street parking, traffic queuing, delays in peak periods, public transport availability and the future transport needs of our customers.

This investigation aims to identify options to:

  • reduce travel times
  • improve road safety
  • improve pedestrian and cycling connectivity
  • maintain amenity of the town centre
  • guide transport planning decisions over the next 10 years.

Could improvements to public transport assist in reducing congestion?

Feedback and suggestions about changes or improvements to public transport will be considered as part of the consultation.

Your feedback will help inform future transport solutions and will build on the 16 Cities consultation carried out late last year.

How will Transport consider improvements to connections for cyclists and pedestrians?

We will work closely with Queanbeyan-Palerang Council and key stakeholders to consider opportunities to encourage walking and cycling in the area to help reduce the demand for car trips.

What happens next?

We will carefully consider all feedback. A Community Consultation Report will be prepared, summarising matters raised and our responses.

This will be made available on our website and the link will be shared via social media. We will keep you updated as planning progresses.
