Project background

The first step was improving the harbour’s infrastructure with the $36 million Eden Safe Harbour Project, which includes the construction of a 366-metre wave attenuator to improve maritime safety, reliability and accessibility for all users. We are now undergoing a competitive process seeking private investors to lease and operate sections of the Snug Cove Maritime Precinct within the Port of Eden

The NSW Government’s Maritime Infrastructure Plan identifies Eden as a critical investment location to support the commercial fishing industry, tourism and recreational boating visitation in NSW. Located between Sydney and Melbourne, Eden is a significant maritime hub on the South Coast of NSW. It also supports one of the largest fishing fleets in the state, the Royal Australian Navy and Bega Valley region’s timber industry.

In November 2022, Transport invited expressions of interest from interested commercial parties, with the necessary experience and capability to undertake development(s) within the Precinct in partnership with the NSW Government. Following the expression of interest stage, short-listed applicants will be invited to participate in a competitive, commercially binding stage that is expected to conclude with the award of one or more agreements between the NSW Government and private sector delivery partners.

We expect to announce the successful applicants in early 2023.
