South region natural disaster recovery
Project overview
Transport for NSW is repairing damage on state roads across the Illawarra and South Coast as part of the statewide natural disaster recovery response.

Floods, bushfires and other natural disasters have caused significant damage across NSW state roads in recent years.
Transport for NSW is working to repair natural disaster damage on several key roads across the Illawarra and South Coast.
Landslip repair program for southeast roads continues during 2025
Transport for NSW (Transport) will carry out more work this year to repair landslip damage on key state roads in southeastern NSW as part of its ongoing natural disaster recovery effort.
Work began in March at six sites with repairs for other sites also in the planning and procurement stage to start later in the year.
The work will involve repairing landslip damage caused by a series of natural disaster events over recent years and across the Illawarra and South Coast region.
This work follows an intensive program last year that saw more than 130,000 work hours carried out to repair almost $30 million worth of landslip damage.
Transport is expecting to complete a similar amount of work by the end of 2025.
The cost of these repairs is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Transport uses a range of methods to repair landslip damage and restore access on mountain roads.
Investigating damage on mountain roads
Before starting, Transport carries out detailed investigations to plan the best repair solutions.
Working safely in tight spaces
Transport makes every effort to minimise the impact of repair work, but it is necessary to close the road while we work to keep workers and motorists safe.
