Sydney Airport

Sydney Airport and Port Botany are two of the most important international gateways facilitating the movement of people and goods around New South Wales.

In 2015, almost 40 million passengers travelled through Sydney Airport and every day more than 150,000 people travel to and from the airport precinct.

About 75 per cent of airport passengers, visitors and workers travel by road. This traffic, combined with freight trucks from Port Botany and other road users, causes congestion on the roads around the airport.

With congestion on Sydney's roads currently costing the city around $6.1 billion each year, the NSW government is investing in upgrades to the roads around Sydney Airport to improve traffic flow and access around the airport and Port Botany.

The three airport precincts are:

• Airport East Precinct, in the area covering Wentworth Avenue, Botany Road, Mill Pond Road, Joyce Drive and General Holmes Drive, Mascot
• Airport North Precinct, in the vicinity of O’Riordan Street, Mascot.

Other works in the area include Mascot intersection upgrades.

The Airport West precinct upgrade at Marsh Street, Arncliffe started in early 2016 and was completed in late 2017.

Major construction on the Airport East precinct road upgrades began in early 2017. The project is expected to be completed in late 2019.

Major construction on the Airport North precinct will begin in mid-2018 and is expected to take twenty months to complete.
