Changed traffic conditions continue on Kamilar Hwy - Notifications - West Region Projects

Reviewed

Project overview

The NSW Government is carrying out repair work to improve safety on the Spring Creek Bridge on the Kamilaroi Highway west of Narrabri.

Transport for NSW will continue essential repair work on the Spring Creek Bridge from Wednesday, 8 June and expect to complete the work in three weeks, weather permitting.

During this time the Kamilaroi Highway between Narrabri and Wee Waa will continue to be closed to vehicles over 15 tonnes. See map below for location of the heavy vehicle detour.

Please note oversize overmass (OSOM) vehicles wider than 2.5m will not be able to access the detour route.

The detour is approved for all prescriptive and PBS vehicles up to and including AB-triple and PBS Level 3 vehicles operating at HML. It is also approved for all vehicles operating under the Livestock Loading Scheme, Grain Harvest Management Scheme at HML, all Special Purpose Vehicles (SPV) cranes up to and including SPV Level 6.

The emergency works include the installation of propping works to provide additional support to the structure which will enable the current 15 tonne vehicle limit to be removed on the Kamilaroi Highway.

Following this essential repair work, work will commence on a side track which is expected to be completed by late 2022, weather dependant. The side track will enable future work to be carried out without the ongoing impact to traffic.

Plans to replace the bridge are being developed with a design expected in early 2023. Work is expected to start in late 2023 for completion in late 2024.

How will the work affect you?

We will be working 7 days a week from 7am to 5pm to enable the repair work to be completed within three weeks, weather permitting.

The work will involve the use of machinery which generates some noise. We will make every effort to minimise noise by turning off machinery and vehicles when not in use.

Traffic changes

Access will be maintained for all other vehicles with a reduced speed limit of 60km/hr in place 24 hours a day until work is complete. Motorists should allow up to 10 minutes extra travel time during this work.

There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe including a detour for vehicles over 15 tonnes from Narrabri and Wee Waa via Culgoora Road. The detour directions from Narrabri is at the intersection of the Newell Highway and Mooloobar Street, turn onto Yarrie Lake Road, then Culgoora Road to Wee Waa via Short Street and Warrior Street.

Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs. For the latest traffic updates, you can call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.
