Work starts at Wallon Creek Bridge - Notifications - West Region Projects

Reviewed

Project overview

The NSW Government is providing $4.9 million in funding to strengthen the Wallon Creek Bridge on the Newell Highway, 30 kilometres north of Moree.

Wallon Creek Bridge Strengthening on the Newell Highway

Transport for NSW will carry out the strengthening work on the Wallon Creek Bridge, which includes driving four steel piles at each of the nine pier locations (36 in total) to construct steel strengthening frames to prevent further settlement of the bridge.

Once completed, the upgrade work will allow for the removal of temporary traffic controls currently in place and enable the speed limit to return to 110km/hr to align with the rest of the Newell Highway conditions between Moree and Boggabilla.

How will the work affect you?

The work will involve the use of machinery which may generate some noise. We will make every effort to minimise noise by turning off machinery and vehicles when not in use.

Traffic changes

From Wednesday 1 September, highway traffic will be temporarily switched onto a side-track, which will be used during the bridge work.

A reduced speed of 40km/h will be in place on the side-track for the safety of workers and motorists.

Please keep to the speed limit and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs. For the latest traffic updates, you can call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.
