4.6m High Vehicles
Under the Heavy Vehicle (Mass, Dimension and Loading) National Regulation, most heavy vehicles are limited to a height of 4.3m. However, there are some restricted access vehicles that can operate up to 4.6m in height, including:
- a vehicle built to carry cattle, horses, pigs or sheep - 4.6m; or
- a vehicle built with at least 2 decks for carrying vehicles - 4.6m; or
- a specified semitrailer* - 4.6m; or
- a double-decker bus - 4.4m.
*Specified semitrailer has the same meaning as it has in section 153A(2) of the Law.
These vehicles may have access under Notice or permit to travel on specified roads in NSW.

Network
The 4.6m High Vehicle Network on the National Network Map.
The 4.6m High Vehicle Network must be read in conjunction with the approved network for the vehicle type (e.g. B-double, road train).
A road is only approved for vehicles up to 4.6m high if the road is approved on both the vehicle network and the 4.6m High Vehicle Network.
Permit
Operators of vehicles over 4.6m high or seeking access to roads that are not on the approved network must obtain a permit for travel.
