Project information

What we are doing

Appin Road is a major arterial road supporting travel and freight movement across three Local Government Areas: Campbelltown City Council, Wollondilly Shire Council and Wollongong City Council.
The road also plays a key role in connecting Appin to employment, education and services in larger areas such as Campbelltown and Wollongong.

Road safety issues at Appin Road are due to existing road conditions, high volume of traffic and vehicle crash history.

Features and benefits

The safety improvements include:

  • Wider lanes, wider shoulder widths, increased clear zones and improved road surface to provide smoother, safer trips for motorists
  • Installation of safety barriers
  • A new overtaking opportunity for northbound traffic to improve traffic flow
  • A new northbound U-turn facility to improve safety for residents entering and exiting driveways
  • A re-aligned road curve with painted median and safety barriers
  • Koala exclusion fencing, koala escape poles and koala grids along the road corridor to protect local wildlife. See Appin Road Upgrade and Brian Road Intersection Upgrade for more information on koala protection and connectivity.
