The NSW Government has given approval for construction company Lendlease to fund and deliver the Appin Road upgrade (Mount Gilead to Ambarvale). This project involves road safety improvements and important biodiversity measures to support housing growth while protecting local koala and wildlife populations.

A submissions report (PDF, 6.17 MB) that responds to the feedback received and includes additional design changes has been prepared. A community update (PDF, 1 MB) announcing the project determination has been published.

What we are doing

Appin Road upgrade is a project funded and delivered by Lendlease and Stocklands as part of a planning agreement with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (also known as a Voluntary Planning Agreement).

This road safety upgrade between Rosemeadow and Gilead includes intersection upgrades and important biodiversity measures to support housing growth while protecting local koala and wildlife populations.

Features and benefits

The project includes:

  • Widening part of the road from two to four lanes to help ease congestion
  • Installing safety barriers to improve safety
  • Construction of new intersections to access the new Figtree Hill community project
  • Koala exclusion fencing along the road corridor to stop koalas and other wildlife from crossing the road and to minimise vehicle strikes
  • Koala underpasses at two locations and an arboreal rope crossing to provide fauna connectivity and movement
  • Line marking and signposting.
