Project information

What we are doing

Appin Road upgrade is a project funded and delivered by Stockland as part of a Voluntary Planning Agreement (also known as a VPA) with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. This project involves road safety improvements such as upgrading intersections between Rosemeadow and Gilead and important biodiversity measures to support housing growth while protecting local koala and wildlife populations.

Features and benefits

The project includes:

  • Widening part of the road from two to four lanes to help ease congestion
  • Installing safety barriers to improve safety
  • Construction of new intersections to access the new Figtree Hill community project
  • Koala exclusion fencing along the road corridor to stop koalas and other wildlife from crossing the road and to minimise vehicle strikes
  • Koala underpasses at two locations, koala hatches (one-way “doggy doors”) and koala escape poles as well as an arboreal rope crossing to provide fauna connectivity and movement
  • Line marking and signposting.
