Project status

During November, main construction work at the station will include concrete construction near the new station entrance, installing temporary railings and handrails, adding new weather protection canopies at the western end of the platform, and upgrading power services to the station platform.

Some out of hours work will take place from 9pm to 4am on Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 November, to install part of the new station entrance roof structure. This work needs to take place when trains are not running for the safety of workers, and to reduce the impact on passengers.

Overall construction is expected to take 18 months to complete, with project completion expected in late 2026.

For detailed information on what is happening this month, please see the November community notification (PDF, 345.69 KB).

Ongoing changes to access

The male toilets on the station platform are now closed, with one female toilet temporarily converted to a unisex facility while new and improved toilets are constructed.

A temporary work site has been established in Girrahween Park, with a 40km/h speed limit on Hartill-Law Avenue in place until late 2026 to improve safety. Passengers should allow extra time to cross safely at the signalised crossing at Hartill-Law Avenue and Slade Road.

What we have heard so far

Review of Environmental Factor feedback

In September 2024, Transport for NSW publicly displayed the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) for Bardwell Park Station Upgrade, being delivered as part of the Safe Accessible Transport program.  We invited community and stakeholder feedback on plans to provide an accessible station with improved amenity and safety for customers.

Key feedback included:

  • overall community support for the upgrade and improving accessibility at Bardwell Park Station
  • suggestions to adjust parking arrangements on Hartill-Law Avenue to improve bus and vehicle thoroughfare
  • preference to remove crossing or find a more suitable solution that reduces risk of traffic congestion and improves safety
  • suggestions to take measures to reduce speeding on Hartill-Law Avenue near station entrance/proposed crossing
  • requests to reconsider location of accessible parking and kiss and ride on Hartill-Law Avenue
  • support for additional canopy coverage on the station platform and suggestion for additional seating
  • suggestions to provide additional accessible station entry point from the RSL commuter car park and/or the Slade Road car park
  • suggestions to improve signage in the carpark areas on either side of the station (Progress Lane and near the RSL).

Early Engagement

In April/May 2024, we engaged with the community and other stakeholders and received more than 70 pieces of feedback.

Feedback included:

  • overall support for the project and improving accessibility at Bardwell Park Station
  • suggestions to adjust arrangements on Hartill-Law Avenue to improve bus and vehicle thoroughfare
  • preference to remove crossing
  • requests to retain timed parking where possible
  • requests to provide additional kiss and ride spaces during peak times
  • support for bicycle storage
  • support for additional canopy coverage on the station platform and suggestion for additional seating
  • suggestion to provide additional accessible station entry point from the RSL commuter car park and/or the Slade Road car park.

We have responded to feedback provided by the community during this phase of engagement in the REF.

Preliminary Engagement

To help develop our concept design we also engaged with people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and women and girls from the local community. Targeted engagement included a Safer Cities Program workshop to understand women and girls’ perceptions of safety, and collaborative Connecting with Country events to understand the unique and enduring relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their ancestral lands, waters and natural resources.

Further detail on what we heard during this stage can be found within the April 2024 Community Update (PDF, 1.5 MB).

Transport is continuing to engage with Bayside Council and other key stakeholders to seek feedback on the concept design and precinct improvements.

Targeted Engagement – Workshops with local people with disability and carers

As part of the design process, we’ve held a series of workshops with people with disability and carers. These sessions offered an important opportunity for participants to share their lived experiences, provide feedback on station designs, and help shape improvements to accessibility across the public transport network.  These invaluable workshops have now concluded, and we would like to thank everyone who participated.
