Burley Griffin Way is a two-lane road that provides an important link for the northern and western Riverina connecting Griffith to Yass and Sydney via the Hume Highway. Transport for NSW is carrying out a number of upgrades along this important network to provide a safer and stronger road.

February 2025 – Binalong safety improvements project on hold
Following community feedback, Transport for NSW has paused the Binalong safety improvement project.
Further feedback was sought between November 2024 and February 2025, including a community drop-in session on Wednesday 4 December 2024.
All comments received during this period are now being reviewed. No work will be carried out until we have assessed responses and determined how and if the project will proceed.
We will continue to keep the community updated on the progress of the project.

Project information
Background
Burley Griffin Way is a two-lane road that provides an important link for the northern and western Riverina connecting Griffith to Yass and Sydney via the Hume Highway.
The highway is 285 kilometres long and extends from the Hume Highway south of Bowning to Irrigation Way at Yoogali, east of Griffith.
Transport for NSW is proposing safety improvements at the intersection of Burley Griffin way, locally known as Stephens Street, and Fitzroy Street.
Earlier this year, Transport reached out to the community for feedback on the proposed safety improvements which included closing access to Richmond Street from Burley Griffin Way.
All feedback received was responded to in the Community Feedback Summary Report (PDF, 1.03 MB).
A speed zone reduction supported by local community feedback was installed in June 2024 to improve safety on Burley Griffin Way through Binalong.
The speed limit was reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h along a section of Burley Griffin Way between Henderson Lane and Russell Street.
