The NSW Government has upgraded Chiswick Wharf and interchange as part of the Transport Access Program. The wharf reopened on Monday 31 July 2017.

Background

The upgrade is part of the major progressive upgrade of ferry wharves across Sydney Harbour which aims to improve Sydney’s ferry services for customers, delivering accessible, safe, comfortable public transport infrastructure with capacity for extra ferry services. New and upgraded wharves and interchanges are being delivered as part of the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program.

Chiswick Wharf is the 14 th upgraded wharf to be delivered so far. This program has already delivered new facilities at Neutral Bay, Rose Bay, Balmain (Thames Street), Huntleys Point, Cremorne Point, Mosman Bay, Drummoyne, Balmain East, Sydney Olympic Park, Pyrmont Bay, Meadowbank and McMahons Point.

The new Chiswick Wharf

The upgraded wharf is made up of a floating pontoon, aluminium gangway and concrete bridge connecting to a new wharf shelter. Glass weather protection panels and new seating provide improved comfort and amenity.

The upgraded interchange will include, new footpaths and ramps, bicycle racks and updated kiss and ride and accessible parking areas.

The upgraded wharf and interchange provides:

  • Better protection from the wind, rain and sun
  • Improved seating and waiting areas
  • Improved safety for customers
  • Quicker ferry boarding and disembarking
  • Improved access for mobility impaired customers and customers with prams
  • Improved pedestrian access
  • Efficient interchanges to other modes of transport
  • Effective wayfinding signage and lighting.
